Dolby Screen Server (DSS200) PrintPrint E-mail

The Dolby Screen Server (DSS200)—the nucleus of the Dolby Digital Cinema system—is designed by Dolby specifically for the cinema and real-world projection booths, with the flexibility to meet your needs for years to come. The DSS200 is based on Dolby’s proven, existing FIPS-certified media block and DCI-compliant server.

The DSS200 media block decrypts the movie data and decodes the image. It outputs link-encrypted image data to the digital cinema projector and audio data to the cinema’s sound processor.

The media block is reprogrammable to accommodate future developments in image and sound formats and assures the highest-quality picture and sound. For security, when the content is decoded, it is reencrypted before being passed on within secure hardware so pirates cannot reach valuable movie data.

The DSS200 supports the JPEG 2000 playback format, as specified by DCI, and MPEG-2 for compatibility with alternative content. Flexible serial automation and closed captions support your automation and access needs, and remote software upgrade capability makes adding features simple.

A RAID 5 hard-disk array stores digital content for playback. For delivery, a removable drive bay accommodates industry-standard content hard drives. Content can also be loaded via a DVD-ROM drive or over a network.

We designed the DSS200 to be serviced easily. The unit slides out from the rack on rails, and the top lifts up for easy access to the hardware inside.

Theatre personnel can run the show locally or remotely via the Dolby TMS software, which includes familiar transport controls and also allows central network control, easy setup, scheduling, and monitoring. Open Web Services allow third-party integrators complete control.
